
Samarjit Lankesh, the son of director Indrajit Lankesh and grandson of writer-filmmaker P Lankesh, is preparing to make his debut in Kannada cinema with the movie Gowri. The film, which also introduces Saanya Iyer to the Kannada film industry, is set to be released on August 15. In a recent interview with Bangalore Times, Samarjit talks about his deep-rooted passion for film, the obstacles he encountered as a newcomer, and his collaboration with his father. "I was captivated by the enchantment of cinema," Samarjit reveals. He goes on to share how his exposure to the works of actors like Puneeth Rajkumar and Sudeep sparked his interest in acting at a young age. In his pursuit of a career in the industry, he honed his craft at the New York Film Academy, where he gained insights into various aspects of filmmaking and even crafted short films with friends. His time in theatre, along with experiences such as assisting director Yogaraj Bhat and training in stunts and dance, has contributed to his performance in Gowri. Despite having acted as a child artiste, Samarjit approached his role as a lead actor with a heightened sense of responsibility, pushing him to deliver his best work in the film. Playing the central character in Gowri presented Samarjit with a multifaceted role that required him to delve deep into the character's complexities. From mastering the Mandya Kannada dialect to executing dance and stunt sequences, Samarjit's dedication to his role shines through in the culmination of his efforts in the film.Samarjit explains that he sees Gowri as the perfect platform to demonstrate his acting skills. Discussing the challenges he faced as a newcomer, he reflects on the increased responsibility he felt transitioning from a child actor to a lead role. Despite being friends with his father outside of work, on the set of Gowri, their relationship took on a professional dynamic, with his father directing and Samarjit acting.
